...Was born in Heemskerk, The Netherlands, in 1976, he now lives and works in the city of Leiden. Raised in a musical family, he decided to follow his father's footsteps as a composer and from 1993 until 1999 he studied sound synthesis and electronic music composition at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague, where he developed his aesthetic concept of 'Sonic Entities'.

He has been involved in various music projects and live performances, produced several commissioned pieces, and had his work presented on radio, CD and in various venues. His composition 'Lacus Somniorum' was awarded in the 2001 Prix Ton Bruynèl music competition. In 2011 his music was featured in a documentary at the IDFA festival in Amsterdam and in 2018 he composed a soundscape for a National Geographic photo exhibition in museum Museon in The Hague.

Next to compositional activities, he has assisted in sound design for several music productions and has compiled many radio shows on electroacoustic music for ConcertZender Radio.

More recently, Hijmans developed himself as a visual artist as well, focusing on abstract painting and photo art. He has held several personal exhibitions and his work is available worldwide through Saatchi Art.

As his sonic and visual art spring from the same aesthetic core, he decided to bring it all together in an overarching project called 'The O Continuum'.
